Saint-Martial-d'Albarède ( Occitan Sent Marçau d'Aubareda ) is a southern French municipality with 464 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (before 2016 Aquitaine ). It consists of the main town and several hamlets (hameaux) and individual farms (fermes) .

Location and climate

The place Saint-Martial-d'Albarède is a good 38 km (driving distance) northeast of Périgueux on the river Loue in the wooded Périgord vert at an altitude of about 145  m . The climate is temperate; Rain (approx. 930 mm / year) falls over the year.

In the Middle Ages, the area was part of a priory of the Saint-Martial Abbey of Limoges . After the turmoil of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) the place came in 1613 to the Counts of Périgord .

Attractions

  • The Église Saint-Martial has a medieval origins, but the small building made of hewn stone has been modified several times. A church bell was cast in 1726 and listed as a historical monument in 1991.
