Alan Norris (born February 21, 1972 in Yeovil ) is an English darts player .
Career
BDO: 2006 to 2015
The beginning: 2006 to 2011
Alan Norris began his professional career in 2006 with BDO . He made his debut in front of TV cameras in 2008 at the Welsh Open . He reached the semi-finals there, but lost it to eventual winner Gary Anderson . A year later he qualified for a world championship for the first time . In the first round he won 3-0 against Steve West , but was clearly defeated 4-0 against Scott Waites in the round of 16 .
2012
2012 should be Norris' strongest year to date. The year began for him with the quarter-finals of the BDO World Championship 2012 . There he was defeated by the eventual winner, Christian Kist , 5-1 without a chance. This was followed by victories at the Welsh Masters and Luxembourg Open . In the same year he reached the final of one of the most important BDO tournaments, the Zuiderduin Masters . In the group stage he achieved a 112 average. He lost the final clearly 5-0 to Stephen Bunting .
The BDO World Championship Final 2014
2013 was a poor year for Norris and so he went to the BDO World Championship 2014 as an unseeded player. In the first round he met defending champion Scott Waites . Norris managed a safe 3-0 victory. After further successes over Glen Durrant , James Wilson and Jan Dekker , Norris was surprisingly in the final.
His opponent there was Stephen Bunting . The match started evenly, with a score of 3: 3 Norris missed the chance to take a 4: 3 lead himself. Bunting, on the other hand, took advantage of his opportunities and pulled away. Bunting was leading 6-3 and only needed one more set, but with a 140 checkout Norris cut the game 6-4. In the 11th set, however, the decision was made, Bunting broke Norris' serve and became the 2014 BDO World Champion with a 7: 4 victory.
2014
Norris underlined his form as runner-up world champion in 2014. He won eight tournaments that year, including the Denmark Open . He was also invited to the 2014 Grand Slam of Darts . He made it to the round of 16 there, but clearly lost 10: 5 against Kim Huybrechts .
Norris went into the 2015 BDO World Championship as the big favorite, but a surprisingly quick end in the round of 16 against Darryl Fitton followed .
PDC: since 2015
After leaving the BDO WM, Norris decided to switch to the PDC . He took part in the PDC Qualifying School in January and threw a 9-darter on his first day . He immediately reached the final and won it 5-3 against Carl Abbiss, which earned Norris a tour card for the next two years.
At the 18th Players Championship tournament of the year, Norris won his first PDC title. In the final, he defeated Kim Huybrechts with a 108 average 6: 1. His good performances brought him into the top 32 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit , which earned him a place in the 2015 Players Championship Finals . He defeated Terry Jenkins 6: 3 in the first round , then lost 10: 3 to Adrian Lewis in the round of 16 without a chance .
Norris also qualified for the PDC World Championship 2016 . He was drawn in the first round with Robert Thornton , the then number 6 in the world . Norris was considered a blatant underdog, but showed a strong game and easily prevailed 3-0. This was followed by victories over Joe Murnan and Mark Webster , so Norris is in the quarter-finals and met Jelle Klaasen there on January 1, 2016 . Norris was already leading 4: 3 and was only one set away from the semi-finals, but ended up being beaten 4: 5.
