Thomas Poulsen

Thomas Poulsen (born February 16, 1970 in Hørsholm ) is a former Danish rower . He was Olympic champion in the lightweight four-man without a helmsman and five-time world champion.

Athletic career

Poulsen was eighth in the four without a helmsman at the Junior World Championships in 1987. At the U23 World Championships in 1990 he finished fourth with the lightweight four-man, in 1991 he was fifth in the lightweight single. In the adult class, he won his first title at the 1992 World Championships in the lightweight eight. In 1993 the Danes won the silver medal behind the Canadians. From 1994 Poulsen belonged to the Danish lightweight four without a helmsman, with whom he, together with Victor Feddersen , Niels Henriksen and Eskild Ebbesen , won the world championship at the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis. In 1995 in Tampere , the Italian foursome won, the four Danes won the silver medal. At the Olympic premiere of lightweight rowing in Atlanta in 1996, the Danes won ahead of the Canadians. In 1997 Thomas Ebert came on board for Henriksen, at the 1997 and 1998 World Championships the Danes won ahead of the French. In 1999 the Danes won their third consecutive world title ahead of the Australians and the French. After a year off, Poulsen returned in 2001 for a World Cup regatta and won with Ebert, Søren Madsen and Ebbesen in New Jersey.
