Anthony John Edwards (* 22. December 1972 in Ballarat ) is a former Australian Lightweight - rowers .

Career

Edwards first took part in rowing world championships in 1993 and finished seventh with the Australian lightweight quadruple. After a fifth place in the double scull in 1994 Edwards won his first medal in 1995 with bronze in the lightweight double scull. At the Olympic premiere of lightweight rowing, he also won a bronze medal in 1996. After a fifth place in the double scull in 1997, he switched to the lightweight four without a helmsman before the 1998 season and also won the bronze medal in this boat class. After winning silver in the 1999 World Cup, the boat also won silver at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

After a break in 2001, he competed in the lightweight single in 2002 and finished fifth at the World Championships, and in 2003 he was tenth. He returned to the foursome for the 2004 Olympics and won his second Olympic silver medal. In the next two years Edwards did not take part in either the World Cup or World Championships, in 2007 he returned in a foursome and was seventh at the 2007 World Championships and ninth at the 2008 Olympic Games. In 2010, the Australian foursome with a new line-up was able to build on old successes and fight for it Silver at the World Championships in New Zealand, in 2011 Edwards won his first world title at the age of 38. In the final of the Olympic Regatta 2012 , the Australian lightweight four finished fourth.

The 1.83 m tall Edwards rowed first for the Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club and later at the New Norfolk Rowing Club . He lives in Hobart and works as a Rowing Development Officer in Tasmania.
