Gustav Tolkmitt

Gustav Tolkmitt (born October 31, 1848 in Wohlau ; † March 15, 1900 in Charlottenburg ) was a German hydraulic engineer .

Life

Tolkmitt enrolled at the Albertus University in Königsberg and renounced in 1867 at the Corps Baltia Königsberg . From 1868 to 1872 he studied at the Berlin Building Academy . At the same time he was Baueleve in Königsberg , where he also attended events in the mathematics seminar of the Albertina. His studies were interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War , in which he took part as Vice Sergeant in the Reserve in Infantry Regiment No. 24 .

A builder since 1876, he was appointed hydraulic engineering inspector in Potsdam on April 1, 1885 . As such, he became a member of the committee for the construction of the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal in 1887 . His involvement in hydraulic engineering projects includes the Bromberger Canal and the Oder-Spree Canal .

In 1889 Tolkmitt became a technical assistant with the government in Potsdam . As a hydraulic engineering inspector he was in Köpenick from 1890 and then in Eberswalde . In September 1895 he took a one-year vacation and went to Uruguay , where he took over the technical appraisal and participation in the port construction of Montevideo and in the regulation of the Rio Negro . After his return it was said that he would read as a private lecturer at the TH Charlottenburg . But he fell ill and took his leave of the civil service. Later he was again in Chile as a technical expert . He died at the age of 52.

A street in Berlin-Kaulsdorf was named after him.
