Darren Balmforth

Darren Balmforth (* 16th October 1972 in Hobart , Tasmania ) is a former Australian Lightweight - rower who won an Olympic silver medal.

Career

Balmforth took part in the (unofficial) U23 World Championships in 1994 and won the silver medal in the lightweight double scull . In the same year he finished tenth at the world championships in the adult class with the Australian lightweight eighth . After three years without a World Championship placement, Balmforth won the 1997 World Championships with the lightweight eighth on the Lac d'Aiguebelette in France.

From 1998 Darren Balmforth rowed in the lightweight four without a helmsman . At the 1998 World Championships , the boat won the bronze medal behind the boats from Denmark and France with Darren Balmforth, Simon Burgess , Anthony Edwards and Robert Richards . In 1999 , the Australian foursome with the same line-up finished second behind the Danes and ahead of the French. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 the Australian four-man competed in the same line-up, with the French winning ahead of the Australians and the Danes.
