Jiri Vlcek (actually Jiří Vlček , * 27 May 1978 in Mladá Boleslav , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers .

Athletic career

Jiří Vlček took part in the 2000 World Championships as a member of the Czech lightweight double foursome and finished 13th with his crew.

From 2005 the 1.80 m tall Jiri Vlcek started for Italy. As a member of the Italian lightweight rowing eight he won in the World Cup ocean race in Lucerne. At the World Championships in Gifu , the Italian eighth won the title ten seconds ahead of the Japanese host's boat. The following year, the Italians defended their title at the 2006 World Championships in Eton , with Luigi Scala , Martino Goretti , Michele Savrie and Fabrizio Gabriele in addition to Vlcek in both titles. In 2007 Jiri Vlcek, Catello Amarante , Salvatore Amitrano and Bruno Mascarenhas formed a lightweight four without a helmsman . At the World Championships in Munich , the Italians won the bronze medal behind the British and the French. Three weeks after the World Championships, the 2007 European Championships were held on Lake Malta in Poznan , the first European Championships since 1973 . The Italians won the title ahead of the Serbs and the Russians. In 2008 the Italian foursome finished second behind the French at the World Cup in Poznan with the same line-up as in the previous year. At the Olympic Games in Beijing , the Italians only reached the B final and took seventh place overall.

In 2009 Vlcek rowed in the World Cup in the lightweight four-man and the light-weight two-man, at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan he went back to eighth and won his third world title. In 2010 he started again in the lightweight foursome. Vlcek, Daniele Danesin , Andrea Caianiello and Martino Goretti achieved fourth place at the European Championships in Montemor . At the World Championships in New Zealand , the Italians finished sixth. In 2011 Jiri Vlcek returned to the lightweight eighth. Behind the Australian boat, the Italians won the silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in Bled . A year later, at the World Championships in Plovdiv, the Germans won ahead of the Italians. After a seventh place in the lightweight foursome at the 2013 World Championships , Vlcek rowed another silver in the lightweight eighth at the end of his career at the 2014 World Championships .
