Salvatore Amitrano

Salvatore Amitrano (* 3. December 1975 in Castellammare di Stabia ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers .

Athletic career

Amitrano won the bronze medal in the foursome without a helmsman at the Junior World Championships in 1993 , and in 1994 he received the bronze medal in the lightweight foursome at the unofficial U23 World Championships . In the same year he competed with the Italian lightweight eighth at the world championships in the adult class and also won a bronze medal here. He also won bronze at the 1995 World Championships with the lightweight eighth. After a sixth place in 1996 and a fourth place in 1997 , he entered the 1998 World Championships in the lightweight four-man without a helmsman and took seventh place in this Olympic boat class. At the 1999 World Championships , the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2001 World Championships , he missed the medal ranks with fourth place.

It was not until the 2002 World Championships that he won the silver medal behind the Danes with the four-man in the line-up Lorenzo Bertini , Catello Amarante , Salvatore Amitrano and Bruno Mascarenhas , for Amitrano it was the first medal after a seven-year break. The following year, the Danes won the 2003 World Championships ahead of the Dutch, while the four Italians rowed across the finish line in third place. The Italian foursome also won bronze at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, this time behind the Danes and the Australians.

In 2005, Amarante and Amitrano switched to the lightweight two without a helmsman. In this boat class, too, the Danes won the title at the 2005 World Championships , behind the Chilean two, the Italians won bronze. After a break in 2006, Amarante and Amitrano competed again in a foursome in 2007 and won bronze at the 2007 World Championships together with Jiri Vlcek and Bruno Mascarenhas. The British world champions and the French runners-up world champions did not take part in the 2007 European championships , the Italian four-man won the title ahead of the Serbs. After a seventh place at the 2008 Olympic Games , Amitrano won the title with the Italian foursome at the 2008 European Championships together with Fabrizio Gabriele , Andrea Caianiello and Armando Dell'Aquila . After that, Amitrano ended his career.
