Jeffrey Lay

Jeffrey "Jeff" Donald Lay (* 6. October 1969 in Ottawa ) is a former Canadian lightweight - rowers . He won an Olympic silver medal and a world title.

Career

Lay's international career began only after graduating from the University of Western Ontario . At the 1993 World Championships in Račice u Štětí , he won the title with the Canadian lightweight eighth . At the 1994 World Championships , he finished fourth in the lightweight four without a helmsman with Robert Fontaine , Gavin Hassett and Bryan Thompson from last year's eighth . In 1995, the Canadian lightweight four without a helmsman in the crew Brian Peaker , Jeffrey Lay, Dave Boyes and Gavin Hassett finished fourth at the World Championships in Tampere . At the Olympic premiere of lightweight rowing in Atlanta in 1996, the Danes won with half a second ahead of the Canadians.

Lay, who had won two silver medals at the Pan American Games in 1995 , switched back to the lightweight eighth in 1997 and won bronze at the World Championships . In 1998 Lay took eleventh place with a newly formed lightweight quad without a helmsman. At the end of his career, Lay reached fourth place with the lightweight eighth at the world championships .
