Marcus Mielke

Marcus Mielke (* 31 January 1975 in Mühlacker ) is a former German lightweight - rowers . He was world champion in 1996 and third in the 1997 world championship.

Athletic career

In 1994 and 1995, Marcus Mielke won the bronze medal in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman at the Nations Cup , a forerunner of the U23 World Championships . At the 1996 World Championships in Glasgow , Mielke competed in the lightweight eighth and won the title in front of the boats from Denmark and Canada.

In 1997 he switched to the lightweight foursome. Together with Roland Händle , Jan Herzog and Martin Weis, he won the bronze medal behind the Danes and the French at the 1997 World Championships . In 1998 in Cologne , the German foursome took 13th place. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , the German four-man competed with Roland Händle, Marcus Mielke, Thorsten Schmidt and Martin Weis and took third place. With Björn Spaeter for Martin Weis, the four finished last in the semi-finals and in the B-final.

At the time of his participation in the Olympics, Marcus Mielke was a sports student. Marcus Mielke rowed for the Potsdam rowing club Germania .
