Career

In 2004 Leveaux became French champion in the 200 m freestyle for the first time. In the same year he also achieved his first major international success when he won bronze medals at the European Championships in Madrid with the French 4 × 100 m and 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , he finished seventh with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.

The following year, at the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montreal , he reached the finals in the 100 m freestyle, but did not get past eighth place there.

At the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2006 , he was sensationally second in the 100 m butterfly. He was also able to secure the vice-European title with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay.

In 2008 Leveaux was able to swim decisively into the international field of vision for the first time. First he was runner-up in the European 200m freestyle at the 2008 European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven . Then, just under a month later, at the French Championships in Dunkirk , he achieved the sensation when he set Alain Bernard's 50 m freestyle European record by 12 hundredths to 00: 21.38 min.

With this performance he is one of the favorites in the 50 m freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . In addition, the French 4 × 100 m freestyle relay, with Leveaux and Bernard, the 100 m freestyle world record holder, was a candidate for the Olympic gold medal. This was underpinned by Leveaux, Fabien Gilot , Frédérick Bousquet and Alain Bernard at the Open EDF de Natation in Paris , when they set a new European record with a fabulous 3: 12.54 minutes and only 8 hundredths above the world record of the US season from 2006 stayed.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Leveaux won the silver medal in the 50 m freestyle.

Leveaux ended his career in 2013. In his biography published in 2015, he confessed to taking cocaine , but stressed that he had never used the drug to improve performance. He also accused competitors, but gave no names.
