Kaori Matsumoto

Kaori Matsumoto ( Japanese 松本 薫 ; born September 11, 1987 in Kanazawa ) is a former Japanese judoka and Olympic champion. She competed in the weight class up to 57 kilograms, the lightweight.

Life

Matsumoto won the Japanese championships in April 2008 and the Asian championships three weeks later. At the end of the year she won the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo. In 2009 she won the Grand Slam in Moscow. At the Judo World Championships in 2009 , she finished fifth. In September 2010 she won the title at the Judo World Championships 2010 in Tokyo by beating the Portuguese Telma Monteiro in the final . Two months later she also won the Asian Games in Guangzhou . In 2011 she won the Japanese championships. At the World Championships in Paris she was subject to her compatriot Aiko Satō and received the bronze medal. At the end of 2011, Matsumoto won the Tokyo Grand Slam for the third time in a row. In July 2012 she won five fights at the 2012 Olympic Games in London , in the final she defeated the Romanian Corina Căprioriu through Ippon .

At the end of 2013, Matsumoto won the tournament in Chiba, in 2014 she won the Grand Prix tournaments in Düsseldorf and Budapest, and at the end of the year she won the Grand Slam in Tokyo. In 2015 she won the Japanese Championships and won the World Championships in Astana both individually and with the Japanese team. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she lost to the Mongolian Dorjsurengiin Sumjaa after two wins at the start , but secured the bronze medal.
