Morgane Ribout (born January 11, 1988 in Lille ) is a former French judoka . She won the world title in 2009 and was third in the European championships in the same year.

Athletic career

Morgane Ribout fought in the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms , until 2011 . In 2007 she won a bronze medal at the U23 European Championships.

In early 2009 Ribout reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris and was defeated by the Greek Ioulieta Boukouvala . At the European Championships in Tbilisi she was defeated in the quarterfinals by the Portuguese Telma Monteiro . After beating Sabrina Filzmoser from Austria in the hope round , she won the battle for a bronze medal against Ioulieta Boukouvala. Four months later, the 2009 World Championships took place in Rotterdam . Ribout defeated the 2008 Olympic runner-up, Deborah Gravenstijn from the Netherlands , in her opening fight . In the second round she won against the Cuban Yurisleidy Lupetey and in the quarterfinals against the Taiwanese Lien Chen-ling . After her semi-final victory over the Japanese Kaori Matsumoto , Ribout defeated the European champion Telma Monteiro in the final and received the gold medal.

In late 2009, Ribout reached third place at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo . At the beginning of 2010, like last year, she reached the final of the Grand Slam in Paris, this time losing to Kaori Matsumoto. At the European Championships 2010 she was eliminated in the round of 16 against Juul Franssen from the Netherlands. In 2011 she won a bronze medal at the European Police Championships (in the weight category up to 63 kilograms). She also came third in June 2011 at the Grand Slam tournament in Rio de Janeiro . In August 2011 Ribout retired from the 2011 World Championships in her opening match against the British Gemma Howell .

In 2012 she finally switched to light middleweight, the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In 2013 she reached the final of the French championships for the only time in this weight class and was defeated by Anne-Laure Bellard .
