Juul Franssen

Juul Franssen (born January 18, 1990 ) is a Dutch judoka . She was third in the 2018 and 2019 World Cup.

Athletic career

Juul Franssen fought in the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms , until 2014 . In 2005 she was runner-up in the U17 European Championships, and in 2006 she won the title. In 2007 she finished fifth at the U20 European Championships. In the same year she reached the final of the Dutch championships in the adult class and lost to Dani Libosan . In 2008 Franssen won the U20 European Championships. In 2009 she won bronze at the U20 European Championships. At the U20 World Championships she reached the final and received the silver medal behind the Hungarian Hedvig Karakas . At the European Championships 2010 Franssen reached the semi-finals and finished fifth after losing to Sabrina Filzmoser from Austria and Telma Monteiro from Portugal. In the same year she won her first Dutch championship title. In 2012 she won the second Dutch championship and won the U23 European Championships, both times she defeated her compatriot Sanne Verhagen in the final .

From 2015 Juul Franssen competed in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In the as part of the 2015 European Games discharged in Baku European Championships in 2015 she finished fifth after them in the quarter-finals against Slovenia's Tina Trstenjak and in the fight for bronze against the Frenchwoman Clarisse Agbegnenou had lost. Two months later at the 2015 World Championships she reached the semi-finals with a victory over the Croatian Marijana Mišković , where she lost to Tina Trstenjak by disqualification. Because of the disqualification, she was not allowed to compete for the bronze medal and took fifth place. In October 2015 she won the Dutch championships. In 2016 Franssen took seventh place at the European Championships in Kazan . In October 2016, she won her first Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi.

In 2018 at the World Championships in Baku , Franssen lost in the quarter-finals against the Japanese Miku Tashiro . With victories over Kathrin Unterwurzacher from Austria and Martyna Trajdos from Germany, she won a bronze medal. One month later, after 2016, she won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi for the second time. In 2019 the European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Minsk . Juul Franssen was eliminated in her first fight against the Italian Maria Centracchio . At the World Championships in Tokyo she defeated Martyna Trajdos in the quarterfinals and lost to Clarisse Agbegnenou in the semifinals. With a victory over her compatriot Sanne Vermeer , Juul Franssen secured a bronze medal.
