Hedvig Karakas

Hedvig Karakas (born February 21, 1990 in Szolnok ) is a Hungarian judoka . She was third in the 2009 World Cup.

Career

Hedvig Karakas was U17 European Champion in 2005 and third in the U20 European Championships in the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 2006 she was again U17 European champion. At the end of 2006 she won her first Hungarian national championship. From 2007 the 1.67 m tall Hedvig Karakas started in the weight class up to 57 kilograms. Here she was in 2007 behind the French Automne Pavia second in the U20 European Championships. In 2008 she won silver again, this time behind the Dutchwoman Juul Franssen . Shortly afterwards Karakas won the Hungarian championships.

At the European Championships in Tbilisi in 2009 Karakas lost to the Greek Ioulietta Boukouvala in the quarterfinals . With victories over the German Viola Wächter and Deborah Gravenstijn from the Netherlands, the Hungarian won a bronze medal. Four months later at the 2009 World Championships in Rotterdam, Karakas lost in the quarter-finals against Kifayət Qasımova from Azerbaijan. With victories over the Polish Małgorzata Bielak and the Japanese Kaori Matsumoto , Karakas also won a bronze medal at this tournament. Two weeks later she won the title at the U20 European Championships, another six weeks later she also won the U20 World Championships. In 2010 she lost to the Austrian Sabrina Filzmoser in the quarterfinals of the European Championships in Vienna . Again she was able to fight for a bronze medal with two victories in the round of hope. At the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo, Hedvig Karakas took seventh place. She also came in seventh at the 2012 European Championships . Three months later at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she lost in the quarterfinals to the Romanian Corina Căprioriu . After defeating the Russian Irina Sabludina, Karakas was defeated by the French Automne Pavia in the battle for bronze and finished in fifth place.

After a fifth place finish at the European Championships in 2013 and a seventh place finish at the European Championships in 2014 she reached in the framework of the 2015 European Games discharged in Baku European Championships with a victory over the Kosovar Nora Gjakova the final and won silver after their defeat against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro . Karakas finished seventh at the 2015 World Championships in Astana, as well as at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
