Nora Gjakova

Nora Gjakova (born August 17, 1992 in Peć , FR Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar judoka who competed for Albania until July 2011 . It starts in the lightweight , the class up to 57 kg.

Career

In 2010, Nora Gjakova took part in the U20 World Championships as an independent participant, where she finished seventh. In 2011 she won two international U20 tournaments as an Albanian in Leibnitz and Pacs. In 2012 she won the Swiss Open Championships in Geneva as a Kosovar. At the World Cup in Rome in 2012 she came third, here again as an independent athlete. In 2013, as a Kosovar, she finished seventh at the World Championships . From then on it started consistently for Kosovo.

In 2014 she won the U23 European Championship in Wroclaw. In 2015, the European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Baku . Gjakova lost to the Hungarian Hedvig Karakas in the semi-finals and won the bronze medal. The following year she lost to the Bulgarian Ivelina Ilieva at the European Championships in Kazan and received the bronze medal as in the previous year. At the 2016 Summer Olympics / Judo , the Kosovar judo team consisted of two people: Majlinda Kelmendi won the gold medal in the semi-lightweight division, and Nora Gjakova took ninth place in the lightweight division after a defeat against the Romanian Corina Căprioriu . In April 2017, Gjakova won a bronze medal for the third time in a row at the European Championships in Warsaw . The following year she won her first European title by beating the German Theresa Stoll in the final at the European Championships in Tel Aviv . In 2019 the European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Minsk. Gjakova won the silver medal behind Russian Daria Mezhetskaia in Minsk .

Like Majlinda Kelmendi, Nora Gjakova trains with Driton Kuka in Peja, as her hometown in Kosovo is called.
