Bruno Bini

Bruno Bini (born October 1, 1954 in Orléans ) is a former French footballer and current coach . From 2007 to 2013 he mainly coached France's women's national team and from 2015 to 2017 the Chinese women .

Career as a player

Bruno Bini, whose father Pierre was a successful professional footballer, who won the championship and cup with Stade Reims in the late 1940s , never played in the top league himself . As a youth, Bruno Bini belonged to two clubs from his ancestral home, first Laragne Sports and from 1971 to 1973 AS Aix . His other stations were AS Nancy (1973/74), Tours FC (1974/75), Arago Sport Orléanais (1975/76), FC Meung-sur-Loire (1976-1979) and US Orléans (1979-1981).

Career as a trainer and functionary

First steps

From 1976 to 1985 Bruno Bini worked as a sports educator in the judiciary; the next three years he was responsible for the organization of gaming operations in the Eure-et-Loir department. Since September 1993 he was also assistant coach of the junior national team and since September 1997 chief coach of the French U-18 / U-19 women. On behalf of FIFA , he also ran coaching courses in Africa in the mid-1990s, including in Guinea and Rwanda .

In 1998 he was also responsible for the game operations in the Loiret department in a double function, and since January 1999 for that of the Ligue de Méditerranée in the south-easternmost region of France . He achieved his greatest successes in the youth field when his players became vice -champions at the U-19 European championships in Sweden in 2002 and European champions at the 2003 European championships in Germany .

Women's national coach

When the women's national coach Élisabeth Loisel announced her resignation in early 2007, the national football association FFF Bini appointed her successor; his first big goal with the women, the qualification for the European Championship 2009 in Finland , in which the Bleues had to prevail against Iceland in particular , he achieved with only one defeat. His players, many of whom he has already looked after in the youth teams, qualified for the 2011 World Cup even more confidently . At the World Cup finals in Germany , the French, who played aggressively and with confidence in their combinations, reached the semi-finals, in which they were defeated (1: 3 against the USA ) as well as in the game for third place (1: 2 against Sweden ). Nevertheless, this fourth World Cup rank represented the Bleues' most successful performance to date, especially since it was associated with their first participation in the 2012 Olympic football tournament . Subsequently, FFF President Noël Le Graët Bini's contract extended until 2013; After France qualified for the 2013 European Championship , it was automatically valid for two more years up to and including the 2015 World Cup .

At the end of October 2011, FIFA nominated Bruno Bini for its ten-person shortlist for the 2011 FIFA Women's Football Coach award ( Ballon d'Or ), in which he was ranked third; In 2012 he was again one of the ten candidates and came in third again in the end. After the French had also finished the 2012 Olympic tournament without a medal - even though they were the most successful European team there - the coach thought publicly about whether he was still the right person to motivate the national players. Then he not only completed the European Championship qualifiers with the French again without losing points, but also - as the only participating nation - the three group games at the finals in Sweden. The fact that the favored France was eliminated in the subsequent quarter-finals after a penalty shoot-out, as in 2009, raised the question in the domestic media about the reasons why the Bleues repeatedly failed in decisive situations and what the coach's part was in it. A few days later, the Executive Committee of the FFF decided to terminate Binis' contract, which ran until 2015, after a total of 99 games (of which 69 won and only 14 lost) as head coach and to replace the previous U-18 national coach Philippe Bergeroo . After 28 years of work for the FFF, both sides agreed in November 2013 on the modalities of the contract termination.

In September 2015, the Chinese Football Association introduced CFA Bini as its new women's national coach. In the first game under his direction, the Chinese won 2-1 against third place in the World Cup, England . For Bini it was the 100th game as national coach . Then his players also defeated the USA. He had signed a one-year contract with a three-year option - with a view to the 2019 World Cup in France . In January 2016, he and the Chinese team won the four-nation tournament in Shenzhen against Mexico, South Korea and Vietnam. He also led his wives to the 2016 Olympic football tournament in Brazil; On the way there, it had eliminated the silver medalist of the 2012 tournament with Japan . In the quarter-finals, China narrowly failed because of the eventual tournament winner Germany . After 42 international matches, however, Bini was relieved of his duties prematurely in mid-November 2017 and replaced by the duo Sigurður Ragnar Eyjólfsson / Sun Wen .

Trainer philosophy

Bini's credo is based on the knowledge that the French women “cannot keep up with the strength and speed of the duels and the speed of the Germans, Swedes or Norwegians, which is why we have to counter them with our technical and tactical advantages” . The ability to work in a team is extremely important for this; he justified his selection of the 2011 World Cup squad with the words "These are not the 21 best players in France, but the best who can go far as a group in the competition".

Albert Batteux , with whom he was often at home as a child (“he had the magic of the word”) , and Michel Hidalgo (“Due to his basic humanistic attitude and his emphasis on the role of educator, I feel a bit like his son, I feel a bit like his son, were particularly influential in his coaching activities ") And, more recently, " Gaby "Robert , who convinced him of the priority of playing over fighting. His own interpretation of this role as an educator was expressed during the 2011 World Cup, for example, in the fact that the Camus lover set up a room in each of the team hotels as a “sports and literature café”, which he stocked with around 50 titles (including works by Rimbaud , Apollinaire , Saint -Exupéry , but also Coelho ).

Bruno Bini is married and has one child.
