Sun Wen

Sun Wen ( Chinese  孙雯 , Pinyin Sūn Wén ; born April 6, 1973 in Shanghai ) is a former Chinese soccer player . She was a striker .

Sun made her debut for the Chinese national team at the age of 17 , with whom she competed in the 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003 World Cup. In 1999, she and her team lost to the USA on penalties in the final . She was named best player and shared the title of top scorer with Brazilian Sissi .

In 1996 she won the silver medal at the Olympic Games . At the 2000 Games she was the tournament's top scorer, although the Chinese Olympic selection was eliminated in the preliminary round. Between 2001 and 2002 she played for Atlanta Beat in the short-lived US professional league WUSA . After winning the Asian Cup in 2006 , she ended her career. She made a total of 166 international matches.
