Didier Païs
Didier Païs (born February 28, 1983 ) is a French wrestler . He won a silver medal in free style in featherweight at the European Championships in 2005 and 2008 .
Career
Didier Païs started wrestling at the SAO Colmar sports club in 1994 . At the beginning of his wrestling career he started in both styles, but soon concentrated on the free style. He was initially trained by Nicolas Claveria. Alain Berger has been his trainer since 2010. The 1.69 meter tall athlete studied sport and joined the French army after completing his studies. He is now starting for the sports club CPB Besançon . In the German Bundesliga he was previously at the start for SV Siegfried Hallbergmoos .
Didier Païs won the first medals at national championships in 2000. He was that year in free style French junior champion (cadets) up to 54 kg and took 3rd place in the same championship in Greco-Roman style. He was then French junior champion in 2002 and 2003. He was French champion in the seniors in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. He won these titles in free style in featherweight.
He made his first start at an international championship in 1999. He finished 25th in the Cadet Junior World Championship in Lodz in the weight class up to 50 kg. In the following years he started several times at international junior championships and from 2004 also for the first time at a European championship for seniors. But he could never win a place among the ten best wrestlers. Only at the Mediterranean Games in 2001 in Tunis did he come fourth in the flyweight division .
In 2005, however, he achieved his first major international success. He fought his way through the featherweight championship in Varna with victories over Vitas Schumakow, Lithuania , Valerios Koguaschwili, Greece , Gergely Szabo, Hungary and Murad Ramasanow , Macedonia until the final, in which he was defeated by Wasil Fedorischin from Ukraine . After all, it made him vice European champion . In the following years his successes at international championships were modest. In 2008 he managed to become vice European champion again. He defeated Samet Dülger from Germany , Gheorghe Bucur from Romania and Gergő Wöller from Hungary in Tampere . As in 2005, he lost to Wasil Fedorischin in the final battle.
Didier Païs could not qualify for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . He succeeded in doing so for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, because at the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul he finished 5th in the featherweight division, which is enough for a starting place in London. He achieved this success with victories over Vincenzo Rizzotto from Italy , Tim Schleicher , Germany a. Reece Humphrey from the United States. He lost to Bessik Serodinowitsch Kuduchow from Russia and Kenichi Yumoto from Japan at this championship.
