The 1.95 meter tall and 97 kilogram heavy right back player was under contract with Chambéry Savoie HB from 2006 . He previously played at Cavigal Nice Sports. With Chambéry he played in the EHF Cup (2007/2008) and in the EHF Champions League (2006/2007, 2008/2009, 2009/2010). In the summer of 2012 he signed a contract with the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid , with which he won the cup. After Atlético Madrid had to withdraw their team in the summer of 2013 due to financial difficulties, Barachet signed a four-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain . For the 2013/14 season he was loaned to Saint-Raphaël Var Handball . In the summer of 2017 he moved to Saint-Raphaël Var Handball.

National team

Xavier Barachet is part of the French national team , for example for the 2010 European Handball Championship , where he won the gold medal. He became world champion at the 2011 World Cup in Sweden. At the beginning of 2012, he ended up with France at the European Championships only on a disappointing 11th place. In summer 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London and won the gold medal again with France. At the 2013 World Cup in Spain, he finished 6th.

He made his debut in the senior national team on January 10, 2009 in an international match against the Algerian national team and has scored 162 goals in 84 international matches.
