France took part in the10th Olympic Winter Games in 1968 in Grenoble, France ,with a delegation of 75 athletes in ten disciplines, 64 of them men and 11 women. With four gold, three silver and two bronze medals, the host was the fourth most successful nation at the Games. Eight of the nine medals were won in alpine skiing . Jean-Claude Killy became Olympic champion in downhill, giant slalom and slalom, making him the most successful athlete at the Winter Games.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the ski jumper Gilbert Poirot .
