A first highlight in Orcel's career was the 1966 World Cup in the Chilean Portillo , where he was sixth in the downhill. From 1967 he took part in the races of the newly created World Cup, on March 3, 1967, he achieved the first podium as third on the downhill from Sestriere . At the 1968 Winter Olympics , he finished eighth in the downhill. Two weeks later, on February 24, 1968, he was able to win the World Cup downhill in Chamonix - but this would be his only victory.
Orcel's most successful season was 1970/71. This winter he was never worse than eighth and finally finished second in the Downhill World Cup ranking behind the Swiss Bernhard Russi . After the Olympic Games in 1972, he resigned from top-class sport.
