Portillo is a winter sports resort in Chile at an altitude of 2860 m. The next major city is Los Andes .

The winter sports area around Portillo is one of the largest in South America. The 19th Alpine World Ski Championships took place there from August 5th to 14th, 1966 , the first (and as of 2020 so far only) World Championship in the southern hemisphere. The ski season usually runs from mid-June to late September.

Portillo is located above the tree line on the Paso de la Cumbre pass road below the Túnel del Cristo Redentor .
