Gilbert Poirot (born September 21, 1944 in La Bresse , † February 1, 2012 in Chamonix ) was a French ski jumper .

Career

Poirot made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 . After he only competed in three of the four competitions and did not achieve a top place in any of them, Poirot only finished the tour in 45th place overall. Even in the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 he did not make a breakthrough. It was not until the Four Hills Tournament in 1965/66 that he achieved good placements for the first time. So he landed in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck on a good 21st place. He finished the tour with 733.6 points in 22nd place overall.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , Poirot started in both individual disciplines. From the large hill he reached 32nd place after jumps on 75.5 and 70 meters. On the normal hill he finished 50th after jumps on 67 and 63.5 meters.

In the Four Hills Tournament 1966/67 Poirot had to fight with a slight drop in performance. In all four competitions he missed a top 30 placement. In the overall ranking he therefore only reached 32nd place. With the Four Hills Tournament in 1967/68 Poirot played his most successful tour. Although he skipped the opening competition in Oberstdorf, he started in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Great Olympic Hill with 10th place, which was also the best individual result of his career. In Innsbruck he achieved another top 20 placement with rank 18. In the overall ranking he finished 13th with 782.7 points at the end of the tour.

At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , Poirot managed to jump into the top 10 in tenth place on the normal as well as on the large hill. With the following four hills tournaments, there was another drop in performance for him. Nevertheless, he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso and jumped from the large hill to 85 and 91 meters, which meant rank 37. From the normal hill he reached a good 26th place after jumps on 76.5 and 76 meters. With the Four Hills Tournament 1970/71 Poirot once again proved his qualities. Once again, he jumped into the top 20 in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck. In the overall standings, he was among the top 30 for the last time in his career.

At his second and last Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo in 1972 , Poirot only started from the normal hill and did not get past 43rd place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun , he last took part in a World Ski Championships. From the large hill he achieved 41st place with two jumps on 78.5 meters. From the normal hill it was only enough for him to rank 51.

With the Four Hills Tournament in 1975/76 Poirot played his last Four Hills Tournament. After he did not get above 65th place in the overall ranking and thus achieved his worst result of his career, he ended his active ski jumping career.
