France participated in the IX. 1964 Olympic Winter Games in Austrian Innsbruck with a delegation of 24 athletes in five disciplines in part, of which 15 men and 9 women. With three gold and four silver medals, France was the fifth most successful nation in the Games. Except for one silver medal, all medals were won in alpine skiing.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the figure skater Alain Calmat .
