Yang Xiuli

Yang Xiuli ( Chinese  楊秀麗 ; born September 1, 1983 in Fuxin ) is a former Chinese judoka who was 2008 Olympic champion in the weight class up to 78 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.73 m tall Yang Xiuli won the 2006 World Military Championships. At the Asian Games in 2006, she lost in the semifinals to the Japanese Sae Nakazawa , but won the battle for the bronze medal against the Kazakh Shanar Shansunova . The following year, Yang Xiuli was defeated by the Italian Lucia Morico in the first round of the 2007 World Championships , with three wins in the round of hope, the Chinese reached the battle for the bronze medal against South Korean Jeong Gyeong-mi and finished fifth after her defeat. At the 2007 Military World Games, Yang Xiuli took second place.

In early 2008 she won the Super World Cup in Paris by beating the Russian Vera Moskalijuk in the final . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she first defeated the Kyrgyz Jelena Proskurakowa and then the Mongol Pürewdschargalyn Lchamdegt prematurely. The Canadian Marylise Lévesque in the quarter-finals and the Spanish Esther San Miguel in the semifinals were also defeated by Ippon. The final against the Cuban Yalennis Castillo , on the other hand, lasted the full time and was not valued, Yang Xiuli won by a referee decision.

After a few tournament victories in late 2008 and 2009, Yang Xiuli only took part in an international championship again in 2010. At the World Championships in Tokyo she was defeated by the Brazilian Mayra Aguiar in the quarter-finals , and Yang Xiuli won a bronze medal with victories over the Russian Wera Moskalijuk and the Ukrainian Maryna Pryshchepa . Two months later, she also received a bronze medal at the Asian Championships after losing to Jeong Gyeong-mi in the semifinals. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , she won the round of 16 against Aye Aye Aung from Myanmar. After defeats against French Audrey Tcheuméo in the quarter-finals and against Dutch Marhinde Verkerk in the Hope Round, Yang Xiuli finished in seventh place. In 2013 she won again at the military world championships.
