Jeong Gyeong-mi (born July 26, 1985 in Gunsan ) is a former South Korean judoka . She won an Olympic bronze medal in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.69 m tall Jeong Gyeong-mi was third in the 2003 Asian Junior Championships. In 2005 she won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. In 2006 she won the world championships for students. At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, she defeated the French Stéphanie Possamaï in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals she was defeated by the Cuban Yurisel Laborde , after which she won the battle for a bronze medal against the Chinese Yang Xiuli .

In early 2008 she won the silver medal behind the Chinese Pan Yuqing at the Asian Championships . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Jeong defeated Britain's Michelle Rogers with a coca rating in her first fight . She decided the quarter-finals after 2:55 minutes against the German Heide Wollert . In the semifinals, the Cuban Yalennis Castillo won through a passivity penalty against Jeong. Finally Jeong defeated the Brazilian Edinanci Silva in the battle for a bronze medal by Ippon after 2:39 minutes.

After winning bronze medals at the World Championships and the Olympic Games, Jeong Gyeong-mi won her first title in May 2009 when she won the Asian Championships. Six weeks later she won the silver medal at the Universiade in Belgrade. At the World Championships in Rotterdam, she lost her first fight to the Dutch Marhinde Verkerk . The sporting highlight of 2010 was the Asian Games in Guangzhou . Yeong defeated the Chinese Yang Xiuli in the semifinals and the Japanese Akari Ogata in the final . In 2011, Yeong lost to the Mongolin Pürewdschargalyn Lchamdegt in the final of the Asian Championships in Abu Dhabi . Jeong won a bronze medal at the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen. In 2012 she won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. In London she lost to Akari Ogata in the first round of the 2012 Olympics . Jeong won the title at the 2013 Asian Championships by beating the North Korean Sol Kyong in the final. Jeong Gyeong-mi and Sol Kyong also met in the final of the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon and Jeong won their last big title.
