Stéphanie Possamaï
Stéphanie Fabienne Possamaï (born July 30, 1980 in Bordeaux ) is a former French judoka . She won an Olympic bronze medal and was European champion in 2007.
Athletic career
The 1.72 m tall Stéphanie Possamaï fought mostly in the light heavyweight division (up to 78 kg). From 1997 she took part in international tournaments, in 2002 she was student world champion and in 2003 she was third in the Universiade. In 2004 and 2005 she was European team champion with the French team. In 2006 Possamaï won the French national championships after being second behind Celine Lebrun in 2005 . The French won the 2006 team world championships. At the 2007 European Championships in Belgrade she won her four fights, in the final she defeated the Russian Vera Moskalijuk . Five months later at the Judo World Championships in 2007 she lost her third fight to the South Korean Jeong Gyeong-mi , then fought her way through to the bronze medal in the hope round .
In 2008, Stéphanie Possamaï finished seventh at the European Championships . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she lost to Cuban Yalennis Castillo in the quarter-finals , but with three wins in the round of hope, the Frenchwoman secured a bronze medal. Stéphanie Possamaï remained active until 2013, but could no longer build on her heyday of 2007 and 2008.
