Ophélie Meilleroux (born January 18, 1984 in Montluçon , France ) is a French soccer player . The defender and former national player has been under contract with FF Nîmes Métropole Gard since 2014 .

Club career

Meilleroux began her career at the Étoile des Sports Montluçonnais club , played for FCF Nord Allier Yzeure from 2000 to 2002 , then for a year at CNFE Clairefontaine and from 2003 at the first division club ASJ Soyaux . In 2008 she returned to Nord Allier Yzeure before moving to HSC Montpellier in 2010 . She was unable to win national titles, but made it to the national cup finals with Montpellier in 2011 and 2012 . In 2014 she left Montpellier together with her club mates Élodie Ramos and Ludivine Diguelman and went to the second division FF Nîmes Métropole Gard ; there Ophélie Meilleroux was only in the squad of the second woman at the beginning of the season.

National player

With the U-19 selection of France, she took part in the European Championships in 2002 and 2003 and in the World Cup in 2002. In 2003 she became European champion with the U-19.

On March 14, 2003 Meilleroux made his debut in a game against Denmark in the French senior team. She took part in the 2009 European Championships . In her 67 international matches, she could not score a goal (as of July 6, 2013). She was also in the French squad , which finished fourth in the 2011 World Cup in Germany, and played two games there. In the first half of 2012, national coach Bruno Bini increasingly relied on Meilleroux for central defense, displacing Laura Georges from the French starting lineup. It was part of the French Olympic squad in 2012 , but was only used in one game. Coach Bini also called her into the 2013 EM squad , but without using her in Sweden. Her last international match was in July 2013.

Life after player time

From 2015 to 2017 Ophélie Meilleroux coached a women's team from Bourbon-Lancy that played in the third division . From summer 2017 she will work as an assistant trainer at her former club from Yzeure, which competes in Division 2.
