Faicel Jaballah

Faicel Jaballah ( Arabic فيصل جاب الله, DMG Faiṣal Ǧāb Allāh ; * August 1, 1988 in Nefta ) is a Tunisian judoka . He was third in the 2013 World Cup and won the African Games in 2011 and 2015.

Athletic career

The 1.96 m tall Faicel Jaballah fights in the heavyweight and open classes.

In 2006 he was Junior Africa Champion. In 2008 he won the Tunisian national championships for the first time. At the African Championships in Mauritius in 2009 , he won a bronze medal in the open class. In 2011 at the African Championships in Dakar , he reached the finals in both heavyweight and open classes and was subject to the Egyptian Islam El Shehaby . Jaballah also reached the final at the World Military Games in 2011, where he was defeated by Frenchman Pierre Robin . At the 2011 World Championships in Paris , Jaballah took seventh place. A week and a half after competing at the World Cup, Jaballah reached the final of the 2011 African Gamesin Maputo and won the title against Islam El Shehaby. In December 2011 Jaballah reached the final twice at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha. In the heavyweight division he was defeated by the Moroccan El Mehdi Malki , in the open class Jaballah won the title. In 2012 Faicel Jaballah won a bronze heavyweight medal at the African Championships in Agadir after losing to El Mehdi Malki in the semi-finals. Jaballah won the open class. At the Olympic Games in London he defeated the Kazak Jerschan Schynkejew in his first fight , in his second fight he was eliminated against the French Teddy Riner .

At the African Championships 2013 in Maputo Jaballah won the heavyweight division, in the final of the open class he was defeated by Islam El Shehaby. At the Mediterranean Games in Mersin, he lost to the Slovenian Matjaz Ceraj in the semifinals and was awarded a bronze medal at the end. At the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Jaballah defeated Islam El Shehaby in the round of 16 and lost to German Andreas Tölzer in the quarter-finals . Jaballah won a bronze medal with victories over the Japanese Ryu Shichinohe and the Georgian Adam Okruaschwili . In 2014, Jaballah finished third at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris and won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku . At the 2014 African Championships in Port Louis , Jaballah won both heavyweight and open classes. At the end of August he was eliminated from the World Championships in Chelyabinsk in his opening match against the Kyrgyz Juri Krakowezki . At the African Championships 2015 in Libreville , Jaballah was able to repeat his double success from the previous year. As in the previous year, he was eliminated in the first round of the World Championships in Astana at the end of August , this time against the German Sven Heinle . At the Africa Games in Brazzaville Jaballah won the heavyweight final against the Algerian Bilal Zouani . In 2016, Jaballah won both titles at the African Championships in Tunis for the third time in a row. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was eliminated in his opening fight against the Hungarian Barna Bor .

In 2017 Faicel Jaballah was defeated at the African Championships in Antananarivo in both heavyweight and open class against the Algerian Nadjib Temmar and missed the medal ranks for the first time since 2010 with seventh place in the heavyweight division and fifth place in the open class. The following year at the African Championships in Tunis , Jaballah again won two medals: gold in the heavyweight division and bronze in the open class. He also won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2018 . After Jaballah finished fifth in the heavyweight division at the 2019 African Championships in Cape Town , he won another bronze medal at the African Games in Rabat .

Faicel Jaballah was trained during his career mostly by the Tunisian national coach Anis Lounifi .
