Barna Bor

Barna Bor (born December 12, 1986 in Pest County ) is a former Hungarian judoka . In 2011 he was runner-up in the open class.

Athletic career

The 1.91 m tall Barna Bor was six times Hungarian heavyweight champion from 2008 to 2016, the weight class over 100 kilograms.

His international career began early on. In 2002 he was U17 European champion. In 2003 he won silver at the U20 European Championships, in 2004 he won. Also in 2004 he won silver at the U20 World Championships and bronze at the U23 European Championships. At the European Championships in 2005 he defeated the Estonian Martin Padar in the heavyweight quarter-finals , after defeats against the Poles Janusz Wojnarowicz and the Israeli Andrian Kordon , he finished fifth. In 2006 he finished seventh at the European Championships after failing in the quarterfinals to Martin Padar. In 2006 he won the U23 European Championships, in 2007 and 2008 he was also able to win this title. In 2006 he also won the World Student Championships. At the Olympic Games in 2008 he was eliminated in his first fight against the Egyptian Islam El Shehaby .

In 2009 Bor won a bronze medal at the Universiade in Belgrade. At the 2010 European Championships in Vienna, he defeated the German Andreas Tölzer in the semi- finals and defeated the Belarusian Ihar Makarau in the final . The following year he reached the final again at the European Championships in Istanbul, this time he was defeated by the French Teddy Riner . At the 2011 World Championships in Paris, Bor finished seventh after losing to Teddy Riner in the quarter-finals and against Russian Alexander Michailin in the hope round . Two months later the World Championships in the open class took place in Tyumen. Here he defeated Mikhailin in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals the Japanese Keiji Suzuki . In the final he was defeated by the Uzbek Abdullo Tangriyev . In 2012 in Chelyabinsk , Bor reached a European Championship final for the third time in a row by beating the Lithuanian Marius Paškevičius in the semi-finals , this time losing to Alexander Michailin. At the Olympic Games in London he defeated the Dutchman Luuk Verbij in his first fight and the Moroccan El Mehdi Malki in the round of 16 . In the quarterfinals he lost to Andreas Tölzer and after his defeat in the hoping round against the Brazilian Rafael Silva , Bor finished in seventh place.

At the European Championships in Budapest in 2013, Bor lost to the Russian Renat Saidow in the quarter-finals . With two wins in the hope round, he secured a bronze medal. At the Universiade in Kazan, he won silver in the heavyweight division and took seventh place in the open class. After finishing seventh at the 2015 World Championships and fifth at the 2016 European Championships , Bor took part in the Olympic Games for the third time in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. After an opening win against the Tunisian Faicel Jaballah , Bor was eliminated in the second round against the Cuban Alex García Mendoza . In 2017 Bor reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Budapest by defeating Georgian Adam Okruashvili . After defeats by the Brazilians David Moura and Rafael Silva, Bor finished fifth again in front of a home crowd.
