Quentin Bigot (born December 1, 1992 in Hayange , Moselle ) is a French athlete who specializes in hammer throwing. In 2019 he won the silver medal at the World Championships in Doha .

Athletic career

Quentin Bigot comes from the north-east of France. He lives and trains in Metz . Since 2009 he has appeared in competitions on an international level. He qualified for the U18 World Championships in Brixen, Italy. There he failed as seventh in his qualification group and ended up in 13th place. A year later he took part in the U20 World Championships in Moncton, Canada. In this age group, the weight of the hammer increased from 5 to 6 kilograms. Nevertheless, he threw more than 6 meters further than a year earlier and is 7th in the final.

Another year later he celebrated his first major success with his victory at the U20 European Championships in Tallinn . He threw 78.45 m in the final. In 2012 he entered the men's competition with a casting weight of 7.26 kg. He qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki and the Olympic Games in London . In both competitions he finished 24th, although he threw around two meters further at the Olympics than before at the European Championships. In 2013 he threw 74.98 m at the World Championships in Moscow and thus narrowly missed the entry into the final of the twelve best in 13th place. Before that, he won the bronze medal at the U23 European Championships in Tampere with a smooth 74 meters.

In July 2014 he was suspended for four years (two of which were on probation) for doping. Before that, he set his personal best of 78.58 m in the spring, which is still up to date (as of 2019).

In 2017 he appeared again for the first time at international championships at the World Championships in London . There he qualified as second in his qualification group. In the final he reached 77.67 m, which meant fourth place in the end. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , he already failed in qualifying. At the 2019 World Championships in Doha , he achieved his greatest sporting success to date by winning the silver medal. With 78.19 m he threw exactly one centimeter further than the third-placed Hungarian Bence Halász .
