Vencelas Dabaya Tientcheu (born April 28, 1981 in Kumba , Cameroon ) is a French weightlifter of Cameroon descent.

Athletic career

At his first Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 , Dabaya competed for Cameroon and took fifth place in the class up to 69 kg with 327.5 kg in a duel. He was also the flag bearer of the Cameroonian delegation. He took French citizenship in November 2004 and has competed for France ever since .

In 2005 at the World Championships in Doha , Dabaya was able to win the bronze medal in the duel, as well as in the snatch and push, behind Shi Zhiyong and Lee Bae-young with 324.0 kg .

In 2006 Dabaya competed at the European Championships in Władysławowo and this time won silver in a duel with 325.0 kg, silver in pushing with 180.0 kg and bronze in snatch with 145.0 kg. The Bulgarian Demir Demirew was the winner . At the World Championships in Santo Domingo that same year , Dabaya won his first world title with a duel of 332.0 kg, this time ahead of Shi and Demirew.

A year later, Dabaya won the European Championships by scoring 331.0 kg. Tigran Geworg Martirosjan lifted the same load but was heavier. At the World Championships Dabaya could not prevail due to the strong field of participants and finished fourth behind Zhang Guozheng , Shi and Demirew with 330 kg .

At the European Championships in 2008 , last year's runner-up Martirosjan Dabaya relegated to second place with 346.0 kg to 333.0 kg. As part of his preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games , Dabaya took part in the international tournament in Heidelberg . With a body weight of 72.7 kg, Dabaya could tear 152.0 kg and push 187.0 kg.

This achievement laid a solid foundation for the Beijing Olympics . There he opened in the push with a valid 187.0 kg, after he was able to bring in 151.0 kg in the snap. At the 2010 World Championships in Antalya , Dabaya failed to make a valid attempt in snatching and pushing, although a month earlier at an international tournament in Villeneuve-Loubet he had overcome significantly higher loads, but with a body weight above his weight limit. At the 2011 World Cup in Paris , he succeeded in at least one valid attempt in both sub-disciplines, but with a duel of 313.0 kg it was only enough for 13th place.

The 2012 Olympic year began for Dabaya with the silver medal in a duel at the European Championships in Antalya behind Əfqan Bayramov and in front of his compatriot Bernardin Matam .
