Demir Demirew

Demir Demirew (born August 31, 1984 ) is a Bulgarian weightlifter . He belongs to the Turkish minority in Bulgaria .

He won the gold medal in the class up to 69 kg at the European Championships in 2005 . In 2006 he became Vice European Champion. At the 2006 World Championships , he won bronze. He was also third at the 2007 World Championships with a personal best of 448.0 kg. Shortly before the 2008 Olympic Games, he was tested positive for metandienone in a doping control and banned for four years. After his suspension, he reached ninth place in the class up to 77 kg at the 2014 World Championships . In 2015, however, he was tested positive for stanozolol during a training check shortly before the European Championships, as were ten other members of the Bulgarian national team and suspended for 18 months.
