Marie-José Kersaudy

Marie-José Kersaudy (born February 27, 1954 ) is a former French swimmer from New Caledonia .

Career

Kersaudy took part in the South Pacific Games for the first time in December 1966 at the age of twelve years and nine months and became the most successful participant there. It was again successful at the 1969 and 1971 events, winning a total of 20 gold medals and one bronze.

At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , Kersaudy took part in the competitions over 200, 400 and 800 meters freestyle, but was eliminated after the heats. The 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay around Simone Hanner , Danièle Dorléans and Claude Mandonnaud and Kersaudy was disqualified in the Olympic final.

On June 20, 1968, Kersaudy set the European record over 400 meters freestyle (4: 44.3 min) and on March 8, 1969 the European record over 1500 meters freestyle (18: 46.6 min). The 165 cm tall and 46 kg heavy swimmer started for the association Cercle des Nageurs Calédoniens from Nouméa.
