René Wegner (born October 30, 1983 in Wittingen ) is a former German soccer player . He was a defender and last played at VfB Oldenburg .

Career

Wegner played in his youth at DJK Reislingen Neuhaus, a club from Wolfsburg . At the age of 15 he moved to Eintracht Braunschweig. From 2002 to 2007 he played mostly in the club's second team, but also made regional and second division appearances in the first team. For the 2007/08 season René Wegner moved to the upper division VfB Oldenburg, which he left after six months and then joined the amateur club FC Brome .

From October 2009 he was coach at the national league club VfB Fallersleben , but announced his resignation at the end of the season for personal reasons at the end of September 2014. He was released early on November 14, 2014. After he had trained the C-youth of MTV Gifhorn for some time , he became assistant trainer at the U17 of Eintracht Braunschweig from summer 2016 .
