Charles Sydney Smith (born January 26, 1879 in Worsley Mesnes , † April 6, 1951 in Southport ) was a British water polo player and three-time Olympic champion .
He was the goalkeeper in the British water polo team for 24 years from 1902 to 1926 and took part in four Olympic Games with her. The British water polo player who dominated the early 20th century the sport, won the gold medal at the Games in 1908 in London , in 1912 in Stockholm and 1920 in Antwerp . Smith won his third gold medal at the age of 41 years and 270 days. This makes him the oldest water polo player to ever become an Olympic champion.
At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 he took part again at the age of 45, but failed with the British team in the preliminary round to Hungary 6-7.
He was inducted into the Fort Lauderdale International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1981.
