Karl Warner

Karl Warner ( Karl DeWitt Warner ; born June 23, 1908 in Woodbury , Connecticut , † September 5, 1995 in Rochester , New York ) was an American sprinter and Olympic champion who was successful in the 400-meter run in the early 1930s was.

In 1933 he was US runner-up. He started for Yale University .

At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Warner was involved in two world records in the 4-by-400-meter relay :

  • on August 6, 1932: 3: 11.4 min. The previous record, set at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam , was 3: 14.2 minutes.
  • on August 7, 1932: 3: 08.2 min (gold medal). This world record is one of the longest-lived in the history of athletics, as it was not until 1952 that the Jamaican quartet set it to 3: 03.9 minutes.

The US relay ran with both world records with the cast of Ivan Fuqua , Edgar Ablowich , Warner and Bill Carr .
