Freddie Wolff

Freddie Wolff , actually Frederick Ferdinand Wolff , (born October 13, 1910 in Hong Kong , † January 26, 1988 in London ) was a British sprinter and Olympic champion .

In 1933, he won 440 yards (49.0 s) at the British Championships . He was also a member of the British team in the 4-by-400-meter relay that took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin in the line-up of Wolff, Godfrey Rampling , Bill Roberts and Godfrey Brown and in 3: 09.0 min Won gold medal in front of the teams from the USA and Germany . He was not at the start in the individual races over 400 meters.

In 1937 Wolff gave up top-class sport and devoted himself to the family business Rudolf Wolff & Co. , a leading metal trader. During World War II he served in the British Army and was promoted to captain. From 1970 to 1977 Wolff was chairman of the London Metal Exchange . In 1975 he was awarded the CBE .
