At the XV. At the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki , Rhoden won the gold medal in the 400-meter run in front of Herb McKenley (silver), also from Jamaica, and the American Ollie Matson (bronze), as well as the team gold medal in the 4-by-400-meter relay race, together with his teammates Arthur Wint, Leslie Laing and Herb McKenley, ahead of the teams from the USA (silver) and from Germany (bronze). The Jamaican team set a new world record in this run, with a time of 3: 03.9 min.
