Paul Pilgrim
Paul Harry Pilgrim (born October 26, 1883 in New York City , New York , † January 8, 1958 in White Plains , New York) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .
At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis , he was sixth over 800 meters and won the team run over four miles with the team from the New York Athletic Club .
His great moment came at the Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens in 1906 . There he won the gold medal in the 400-meter run , ahead of the Briton Wyndham Halswelle (silver) and the Australian Nigel Barker (bronze), as well as the gold medal in the 800-meter run , ahead of his compatriot James Lightbody (silver) and the Briton Wyndham neck shaft (bronze).
His third participation in the London Olympics in 1908 was a debacle. Over 400 meters, he was eliminated as a favorite in the preliminary run. In the following years he won no more important runs.
