Joe Deakin (actually Joseph Edmund Deakin ; born February 6, 1879 in Shelton , Stoke-on-Trent , † June 30, 1972 in Dulwich, London Borough of Southwark ) was a British middle and long distance runner .

In 1905, starting for England , he won the bronze medal at the Cross of Nations .

At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , he was sixth over 1500 meters . He crossed the finish line first in the 3-Mile Team Run and won the gold medal for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland team with Archie Robertson and William Coales , who followed in second and third place . The preliminary round of the 5-mile run was scheduled for the afternoon of the same day. Deakin, who had celebrated extensively, went to the start, but did not reach the finish.

Joe Deakin started for the Herne Hill Harriers and moved to Surrey AC after the Olympic Games . He participated in competitions up to his 90th birthday.
