John Rimmer
John Rimmer ( John Thomas "Jack" Rimmer ; born April 27, 1878 in Ormskirk , Lancashire , † June 6, 1962 in Liverpool ) was a British athlete and two-time Olympic champion .
Rimmer won the AAA British four-mile championships in 1900 . At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 , he first took part in the 1,500-meter run , in which he finished eighth. A day later, Rimmer won the 4,000-meter obstacle course with just under one and a half meters ahead of his compatriot Charles Bennett . Together with Bennett, Alfred Tysoe , Sidney Robinson and Stan Rowley , he achieved a second Olympic victory in the 5000-meter team run.
From 1901 Rimmer worked with the Liverpool City Police and retired 30 years later as a sergeant . He took part in races when he was over 50 and was president of the Sefton Harriers athletics club .
