Horace Brown (athlete)

Horace Brown ( Horace Hallock "Hal" Brown ; born March 30, 1898 in Madison , New Jersey , † December 25, 1983 in Houston ) was an American long-distance runner .

In 1920 he won over 5000 meters in the US elimination match for the Olympic Games in Antwerp , but did not finish there in this discipline. In the team race over 3000 meters, however, he was the first to cross the finish line and won the gold medal for the US team with Arlie Schardt (3rd) and Ivan Dresser (6th). In the same year he became IC4A champion over 2 miles .

Horace Brown graduated from Williams College and later worked as a seismologist .
