Douglas Gordon Arthur Lowe (born August 7, 1902 in Manchester , † March 30, 1981 in Cranbrook , Kent ) was a British athlete . With a height of 1.83 m, his competition weight was 70 kg.

During his law studies at Pembroke College in Cambridge he won the annual comparison match against Oxford over 880 yards three times from 1922 to 1924, and in 1924 he also won over the mile.

Lowe won the 800-meter run at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris in 1: 52.4 minutes ahead of the Swiss Paul Martin . In the 1500 meter run , Lowe finished fourth in 3: 57.0 minutes.

In 1926 at the championships of the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) Lowe was second in 1: 52.0 min over 880 yards behind the German Otto Peltzer in 1: 51.6 min. Both stayed below the old world record. In 1927, Lowe won his first AAA championship titles when he won over 440 yards, over 880 yards, and in the relay. In 1928 he repeated his victories over 440 yards and over 880 yards.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 , he repeated his Olympic victory in 1924 in the 800-meter run, this time before Sweden's Erik Byléhn . His winning time of 1: 51.8 minutes was a British record until 1948. At the games in Amsterdam he also finished fifth with the British 4 x 400 meter relay . Lowe retired after the 1928 season.

1931 to 1938 he was Secretary General of the British Athletics Federation. In 1964 the lawyer was appointed as a judge at the "Crown Court" .
