Ted Meredith (actually James Edwin Meredith ; born November 14, 1891 in Chester Heights , Pennsylvania , † November 2, 1957 in Camden , New Jersey ) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .

While still in high school , Meredith was accepted into the Olympic team. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , he won the gold medal in the 800-meter run with a world record time of 1: 51.9 minutes ahead of his compatriots Mel Sheppard (silver) and Ira Davenport (bronze) as well as the team gold medal in the 4 times 400 meter relay together with his teammates Mel Sheppard, Edward Lindberg and Charles Reidpath , ahead of the teams from France (silver) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (bronze). He finished fourth over 400 meters .

After the Olympics, Meredith went to the University of Pennsylvania . In his time as a student until 1917 he was IC4A champion over 440 yards from 1914 to 1916 and over 880 yards in 1914 and 1915. He also won the AAU Championships over 440 yards in 1914 and 1915. In 1916, he set a world record over 440 yards of 47.6 s, which was valid until 1928.

In 1917 he joined the army and fought in the First World War . At the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 he reached the semifinals over 400 meters and came in fourth with the US team in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
