Oliver MacDonald

Joseph Oliver MacDonald (born February 20, 1904 in Patterson , New Jersey , † October 21, 1973 in Flemington , New Jersey) was an American track and field athlete who was active as a sprinter in the early 1920s.

At the VIII Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 , he was a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay , which consisted of Commodore Cochran , Alan Helffrich , Oliver MacDonald as 3rd runner and William Stevenson in the world record time of 3:16, 0 min won the gold medal by a large margin ahead of Sweden and Great Britain.

Among the participants in the AAU championships of those years, his name appears only once: In 1925, he finished second over 220 yards behind Jackson Scholz .

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in 1927 , MacDonald opened dental practices in Patterson and Haledon . In 1959 he gave up this activity and became a real estate agent. He was also the first consumer affairs assessor on Flemington City Council.
