Ramon Miller (born February 17, 1987 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian athlete who has specialized in the 400-meter run and 2012 Olympic champion in the 4-by-400-meter relay .

Athletic career

Ramon Miller gained his first international experience at the 2003 CARIFTA Games in Port of Spain , where he was eliminated in the first round over 800 meters. Two years later he won the gold medal in the 800-meter run at the Bacolet Games and finished eighth over 1500 meters. At the Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor he was eliminated in the first round over 800 meters. In 2006 he took fourth place over 400 meters at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in Port of Spain and won the bronze medal with the Bahamian 4 x 400 meter relay. At the Junior World Championships in Beijing , he was eliminated with the relay in advance. In 2008 he retired from the U23 NACAC championships in Toluca de Lerdo in the first round over 400 meters. He was then nominated as a relay runner for the Olympic Games in Beijing. He was used in the qualifying round . In the final, the Bahamas team won the silver medal behind the United States without his participation.

Also at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 Miller started with the relay, which was disqualified due to a substitution error in the preliminary run. In the individual competition he was eliminated in the semifinals with 44.99 s. Both at the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi and at the Pan American Games 2011 in Guadalajara , he won the bronze medal over 400 meters. In addition, he finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games with the season and was eliminated from the Pan American Games in the first round. Previously, he won the silver medal over 400 meters and gold with the relay at the Central America and Caribbean Championships in Mayagüez . At the World Championships in Daegu , however, he could not qualify for a final either with the relay or individually. Miller celebrated his greatest success to date by winning the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . He led the relay around Chris Brown , Demetrius Pinder and Michael Mathieu as the final runner to a new national record of 2: 56.72 minutes in the final and thus prevailed against the favored US team. In the individual competition over 400 meters he was eliminated with 45.11 s in the semifinals .

In 2013 he qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated in the first round with 47.53 s. In 2014 he took part with the relay at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot , but could not reach the final there. It then took second place in the World Relays , but was only used in the preliminary run. In 2015 he finished second again at the World Relays and qualified over 400 meters for the Pan-American Games in Toronto , but was eliminated there with 48.54 seconds. With the relay he won the silver medal at the NACAC Championships in San José and was disqualified in the preliminary round at the World Championships in Beijing . Two years later he took part again with the relay at the World Championships in London, but could not qualify for the final again . In 2018 he won the silver medal with the relay at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he was used in the preliminary stages.

In 2013, Miller became the Bahamian champion in the 400-meter run. He studied exercise physiology at Dickinson State University .
