Ira Davenport ( Ira Nelson Davenport ; born October 8, 1887 in Winfield , Kansas , † July 17, 1941 in Dubuque , Iowa ) was an American sprinter and middle-distance runner .

In 1910 he set a world best for the year over 440 yards with 48.5 s.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 he reached the semifinals over 400 m . In the 800 meter run , he won the bronze medal in 1: 52.0 min behind his compatriots Ted Meredith , who set a world record with 1: 51.9 min, and Mel Sheppard (1: 52.0 min).

Ira Davenport graduated from the University of Chicago . From 1920 to 1921 he was an American football coach at Loras College.
