Carel de Moor (born February 25, 1655 in Leiden , † February 16, 1738 in Warmond ) was a Dutch painter .

Life

Carel de Moor was the son of an art dealer and developed into one of the most important Dutch portrait painters in the tradition of fine painting in Leiden. His teachers were Gerard Dou , Frans van Mieris , Abraham Lambertsz. van den Tempel and Godfried Schalcken .

In 1683 Carel de Moor became a member of the Leiden Guild of St. Luke , for which he held numerous leading positions in the following years. Around 1694 he founded the Leidse Tekenacademie with Willem van Mieris and Jacob van Toorenvliet , which lasted until 1736.

His son Carel Isaac de Moor (1691–1751) also worked as a portrait painter.
